Subtitles/captions are set once in the content library and applied
automatically by the player — no in-player controls (the player stays bare).
- DB: 4 new content columns (captions_enabled, captions_lang for YouTube;
subtitle_url, subtitle_lang for uploaded videos), all default off/NULL.
- buildSnapshotItems: denormalize the 4 fields into published_snapshot so the
player receives them (enumerated query).
- content.js PUT: accept the 4 fields (subtitle_url only clearable here).
- POST /:id/subtitle: dedicated .vtt uploader (separate multer, since the main
filter is video/image-only); stores the file in the content dir, records
subtitle_url + subtitle_lang. Old subtitle file replaced; DELETE cleans up
the sidecar.
- Player: YouTube -> loadModule('captions') + setOption(...languageCode) in
onReady (best-effort, wrapped). Uploaded video -> a <track kind="subtitles">
appended to the <video>, forced mode='showing' on load (same-origin, so
CORS-clean like the video).
- Edit modal: YouTube gets an enable-captions checkbox + language; uploaded
video gets a .vtt file picker + language + a remove-subtitle option. en/es.
Honest limitation (in the PR): YouTube caption control via the IFrame API is
undocumented/version-dependent and only works if the video actually has
captions — hence best-effort and wrapped so it can never break playback.
Test: content-subtitles.test.js — the 4 fields survive publish -> snapshot,
the .vtt upload endpoint stores + records the file, and a non-.vtt is rejected.
Suite 550/550.

The content library had no batch operations — every item was managed one at a
time. Add multi-select with batch delete and batch move.
Backend (content.js):
- POST /content/batch/delete — array of ids, atomic: validates + authorizes
EVERY id first (malformed/missing/forbidden rejects the whole batch), then
deletes in one transaction. Reuses the single-delete teardown.
- POST /content/batch/move — array of ids + target folder_id, same atomic
validate-all-first; target folder must share each item's workspace. Folder is
organizational (not in the snapshot), so no device push.
- Refactor: extract purgeContentRow() (file removal + snapshot scrub + row
delete + affected-device collection) and pushContentUpdates(); DELETE /:id now
uses them, so single + batch share one scrub path (no duplication). Add a
boolean contentWritable() mirroring checkContentWrite's authorization.
- 500-item cap per batch; UUID validation guards the snapshot-scrub LIKE.
Frontend (content-library):
- Per-card selection checkbox, select-all/none (visible), shift-click range.
- Selection persists across folders/pages (issue-aligned cross-page selection);
cleared after a successful batch op.
- Batch toolbar (shown when >0 selected): count, move-to-folder picker, delete
with click-again confirm. Selected cards get an outline.
- api.batchDeleteContent / batchMoveContent; en/es i18n.
Not included: batch "set expiry" (listed in the issue's toolbar sketch but only
delete/move had endpoint specs) — deferred; PUT already does per-item expiry.
Test: content-batch-ops.test.js — batch delete removes rows+files+scrubs
snapshots; atomic rejection leaves valid rows intact; malformed id -> 400;
batch move reassigns folder; cross-workspace folder refused; empty batch -> 400.

Uploading N files fired N sequential XHRs (one POST per file). Select-many now
goes up in a single request.
- Server POST /api/content: upload.array-style `files` field (up to 20) via
upload.fields, looping ingestUploadedFile per file. Keeps the legacy single
`file` field so older clients / API callers are unaffected. Response shape is
backward-compatible: a single file returns the content object (what every
existing caller reads), a batch returns the array.
- api.uploadContent: accepts a File, FileList, or array; appends all under
`files`; aggregate upload progress; resolves to object (single) or array
(batch).
- content-library handleFiles: one batched request with aggregate progress and
a "N files uploaded" toast instead of a per-file loop.
- en/es i18n for the count-based progress/toast strings.
checkStorageLimit is left as-is — it's a coarse pre-gate (blocks only when
already at/over the limit), same as before; per-file aggregate sizing was a
listed "consideration", not required, and is out of scope here.
Test: content-multi-upload.test.js drives the real router+multer over HTTP —
3-file batch creates 3 rows and returns an array, legacy single `file` returns
an object, single `files` returns an object, empty -> 400. Suite 545/545.

Content discovery was client-side only, scoped to the items already rendered
on the current page — searching "logo" on page 1 couldn't find logos on page
2 or in another folder.
Server (GET /api/content):
- ?q= text search on filename (LIKE, workspace-wide — a search ignores the
open folder so nothing is missed). LIKE metacharacters are escaped so a
filename with % or _ matches literally.
- ?type=video|image|youtube|web — youtube (video/youtube) and web (other
remote_url) are split from plain uploaded video/image so the four UI buckets
map cleanly.
- ?sort=date_desc|date_asc|name|size — whitelisted (never interpolates user
input into ORDER BY); default keeps the legacy newest-first ordering.
Frontend (content-library):
- Type filter + sort dropdowns; search debounced (300ms) and now hits the
server instead of filtering the DOM.
- Result count shown while a search/type filter is active.
- en/es i18n.
api.getContent gains an opts arg ({q,type,sort}); folder_id is omitted while
searching to match the server's workspace-wide behaviour.
Test: content-search-filter-sort.test.js mounts the real router and covers
substring match, LIKE-escape (literal %), the type buckets, name/size sort,
the ORDER BY injection guard, and combined filters. Suite 541/541.

On Android TV with weak/unstable WiFi, YouTube embeds auto-select 1080p+
and buffer/stall. Add a per-item "Unstable connection" flag that biases the
YouTube embed toward a 720p ceiling.
- DB: content.unstable_connection INTEGER NOT NULL DEFAULT 0 (non-destructive,
existing rows unchanged).
- buildSnapshotItems: denormalize the flag into published_snapshot so it
reaches the player (that query enumerates columns, so it had to be added
explicitly — covered by a new test). preview-payload reuses the same query.
- content.js PUT: accept + coerce unstable_connection to 0/1.
- Player: playerVars.vq='hd720' + best-effort setPlaybackQuality('hd720') in
onReady when the flag is set. Both are hints YouTube may still override, but
together they bias the initial selection down to 720p.
- Edit modal: YouTube-only checkbox + hint; en/es i18n.
Scoped to the core ask; the issue's optional "Shorts get inverse hd1080"
refinement is intentionally left out (dubious for signage, and forcing higher
quality on a weak link is the opposite of the goal).

Previously the dashboard upload always sent files to root (folder_id=NULL)
because the upload flow never read or forwarded the current folder context.
The agency upload already handled this correctly — this applies the same pattern.
Changes:
- api.js: uploadContent() accepts optional folderId, appends to FormData
- content-library.js: handleFiles() passes state.currentFolderId
- content.js: POST / reads folder_id from multipart body

Plain <img src> tags can't send the Bearer token, causing 403 on
/api/content/:id/thumbnail. Extracted loadAuthImage/hydrateAuthImages
from content-library.js into utils.js and applied the data-auth-src
pattern to playlists, device-detail, and widgets views.
Closes thumbnail rendering in:
- Playlist items list and add-item modal
- Device assignment list and assign-content modal
- Widget content picker, logo, and background images

The IntersectionObserver callback fires asynchronously and may miss
images on first render when the DOM layout isn't settled yet. Add a
rAF fallback that manually loads any still-unloaded images visible
within the viewport (same 300px margin as the observer).
* fix(dashboard): load visible auth images synchronously, not via observer
getBoundingClientRect() forces layout synchronously so visible images
load immediately. IntersectionObserver is now only used for lazy-
loading off-screen images. This eliminates the async timing gap on
first render where neither the observer callback nor rAF would fire.
* fix(dashboard): load all auth images immediately, skip visibility check
Simplifies hydrateAuthImages to load every img[data-auth-src] directly.
loadAuthImage deletes the attribute so observer double-fire is safe.
This eliminates any possible IntersectionObserver/BoundingClientRect
timing issues on first render.
* debug: add console logs to trace auth image hydration flow
* fix(dashboard): hydrate auth images in device detail initial load
loadDevice() renders the playlist tab with data-auth-src images
but never called hydrateAuthImages. Only the playlist-switch path
(line 1022) had the hydrate call. Added hydrateAuthImages to the
initial contentEl.innerHTML render so thumbnails load on first view.

ROOT CAUSE (hard evidence this time, from the response headers): the app sends
Referrer-Policy: no-referrer globally (helmet default). A raw YouTube iframe then reaches
youtube.com with NO Referer, so YouTube can't identify the embedding site and shows "Video
player configuration error" (153). Confirmed by the three facts: the same /embed URL plays in
a top-level tab (no embed check), plays in the device player (YT.Player loads iframe_api and
validates via an ORIGIN postMessage handshake, which doesn't need Referer), and fails only as
a raw iframe on a no-referrer page. The player's page is ALSO no-referrer, proving it's the
embed method that saves it, not the headers.
Fix: add referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" to the preview iframe — overrides
the page's no-referrer for just this element so YouTube receives our origin and validates the
embed. Scoped (only the YouTube embed sends a referrer; only the origin, not the path), no JS
API machinery needed for a passive preview, page-level no-referrer untouched.
Supersedes the earlier enablejsapi/origin strip, which was inert (those params do nothing in
a raw iframe with no IFrame API). Frontend-only; suite 149 green.

The content-tab preview embedded a RAW iframe with enablejsapi=1 (baked into the stored
/embed URL by /youtube) plus origin=window.location.origin — but the content tab loads the
YouTube IFrame API zero times. enablejsapi=1 + origin tells YouTube's player to expect a
postMessage handshake from a parent JS API that never exists here, which surfaces as "Video
player configuration error" (153). Same-video proof: it plays on the device player (which
loads iframe_api + uses YT.Player, so the handshake completes) and failed only on the content
tab — so it was never a video/embeddability problem, purely the embed construction.
Fix: the preview is passive (never drives playback via JS), so it must not declare the JS API
— strip enablejsapi + origin, leaving a plain /embed/ID (the form that plays in a bare tab).
Did NOT touch /youtube storage (the player extracts the videoId and ignores stored params, so
the baked-in enablejsapi is harmless there). Retracts the earlier wrong "validate
embeddability at add-time" diagnosis (never built — it would have rejected this embeddable
video). Frontend-only; suite 149 green.

After uploading, content thumbnails were blank until the item was added to a
playlist/widget. The public /api/content/:id/thumbnail (and /file) endpoints are
reference-gated (an anonymous player with a UUID must not pull arbitrary tenants'
media), and a plain <img> can't send a Bearer token - so a just-uploaded item 403'd.
- Backend: add an authenticated bypass - a logged-in user who can access the
content's workspace (verified from the Bearer token) may view its file/thumbnail
even when unreferenced. Anonymous players still hit the reference gate.
- Frontend: the content library lazy-fetches thumbnails/previews WITH the token
and swaps in an object URL (IntersectionObserver keeps it under the rate limit;
the URL is revoked after load).
Verified: unreferenced thumbnail now 200 with a bearer token, still 403 anonymous.
Session 1 of 2 of the i18n rollout.
- Split i18n module into per-language files under frontend/js/i18n/ so a
translator can edit one language without touching the others.
- Add Portuguese (pt) and seed Hindi (hi). Hindi is intentionally a skeleton
-- 0 keys, full English fallback -- because we have an active Indian user
and would rather ship "no Hindi" than ship machine-quality Hindi that
could read as unprofessional or get formality/gender register wrong.
- 183 keys, 100% parity across en/es/fr/de/pt; native review still
recommended before publicizing as "fully supported".
- Add t(key, vars) variable substitution and tn(keyBase, n, vars) plural
helper for _one/_other key pairs.
- setLanguage() now triggers a CustomEvent + HashChangeEvent so the
existing hash router naturally re-renders the current view, plus a
subscriber pattern for nav labels rendered once outside the router.
- Wire t() into 3 high-traffic views end-to-end: dashboard, login,
content-library. Sidebar nav labels in app.js update on language change.
- The remaining 16 views still ship with hardcoded English; they will be
wired in session 2. The t() lookup is robust against unwired views, so
the dashboard works in 5 languages while clicking into e.g. Schedule
still shows English. No regressions.

Once inside a folder, the only drop targets shown were that folder's
own subfolders — no way to drag a file back up to root or to a parent
without opening the edit modal. Breadcrumb segments now accept content
drops: drop on 'All Content' to move to root, or onto a parent folder
name to move there. The edit modal still works for cross-branch moves.

HIGH 1 (teams IDOR): POST/DELETE /api/teams/:id/devices now require the
caller to own the device before assigning or detaching it. Without this
check, any team member could pull any device into their team via UUID
guess and gain remote-control access.
HIGH 2 (schedules IDOR): PUT /api/schedules/:id now re-verifies
ownership of every changed target field — device_id, group_id,
content_id, widget_id, layout_id, playlist_id. Previously only the
schedule owner was checked, letting users fire arbitrary content on
victim devices via update.
HIGH 3 (filename XSS): file.originalname captured by multer bypassed
sanitizeBody. New safeFilename() wraps every INSERT path (multipart
upload, remote URL, YouTube). Frontend sinks now go through esc() in
content-library.js, device-detail.js, video-wall.js. Web player gets
an inline escHtml helper for its info overlay where filenames, device
name, and serverUrl land in innerHTML.
HIGH 4 (kiosk public XSS): config.idleTimeout is now coerced via the
existing safeNumber() helper at both interpolation sites. A crafted
value with a newline can no longer escape the JS line comment to
inject arbitrary code into the public render endpoint.
HIGH 5 (folder DoS): POST /api/folders enforces a per-user cap of 100
folders (429 on overflow). Superadmin exempt.
MED 1 (SSRF): ImageLoader.decodeUrl rejects any URL scheme other than
http(s) so a malicious remote_url can't read local files via file://.
On the server, validateRemoteUrl() is extracted and now also runs on
PUT /api/content/:id remote_url updates — previously the SSRF check
only fired on POST.
MED 2 (fingerprint takeover): the WS device:register fingerprint
reclaim path now rejects takeover while the target device is online or
within 24h of its last heartbeat. A leaked fingerprint can no longer
hijack an active display.
MED 3 (npm audit): bumped uuid 9.x -> 14.0.0 (v3/v5/v6 buffer bounds
CVE; we only use v4 so not exploitable, but clears the audit). path-
to-regexp resolved to 0.1.13 via npm audit fix. 0 vulns remaining.
MED 4 (folder admin consistency): ownedFolder() and the content.js
folder_id move check now both treat only superadmin as privileged,
matching GET /api/folders. Previously a plain "admin" could rename
or delete folders they couldn't see, and could move content into
folders they couldn't list.

New content_folders table with hierarchical parent_id and per-user
scoping. content.folder_id added (ON DELETE SET NULL so deleting a
folder drops items back to root). New /api/folders route exposes
list/create/rename/move/delete with cycle detection on move.
Content library UI: breadcrumb navigation, subfolder grid, "+ New
Folder" creates inside the current folder, drag-and-drop content
items onto folder cards to move them, and the edit modal has a
folder dropdown showing each folder's full path.
Per-user scoping is enforced server-side: every folder query
filters by user_id, and folder ownership is checked on both folder
mutations and content.folder_id updates.

Inline width:NNNpx beats the .modal { width: 95vw } mobile rule due to
specificity. Convert to max-width:NNNpx;width:95vw on the three affected
modals so they cap at their desktop size but still shrink on mobile:
- playlists.js add-item modal (560px)
- device-detail.js assign-playlist modal (650px)
- content-library.js edit-content modal (500px)
Same fix pattern for fixed-width form controls flagged in QA — selects
and inputs change to max-width:NNNpx;width:100% so they keep their
desktop size but shrink to container on mobile:
- admin.js role/plan selects (120/130px)
- teams.js member role + add-device selects (100/200px)
- content-library.js search input + folder filter (250/180px)
- onboarding.js pairing code + display name inputs (240px)
